Cape Bardo
Ink & Co
Cape Bardo is the sacred place where stories are born. I hope to spend as much time as possible here, hovering between death and rebirth, trying to breathe life, love and despair into stories that can achieve the only goal any storyteller aspires to - leave the reader rampantly tearing through pages, not wanting the story to ever end.
If you'd ever like to join me in Cape Bardo, if there is a story burning a hole in your thoughts that you know you must get out of you and on to the page then please get in touch on the Contact page. I'll see what I can do to help your story come to life. Or you can email about anything you like whatsoever, if it gets you scribbling then it's a step in the right direction, a step to the Cape.
Happy reading
and best of luck with your writing,
Liam J Carroll
In Tibetan Buddhism, Bardo is a state of existence between death and rebirth, which varies in length according to a person’s conduct in life and manner of, or age at, death. In Newport Beach, Sydney, Bardo Road is a place I spent a lot of time when I was growing up. There is surely some deep, profound coincidence to all that…or maybe it’s just one big glorious piss-take like most of the best things in this world. In any case and for whatever reason, the concept of Cape Bardo is something I believe any writer can relate to. It's home.
To me, Cape Bardo is the place an author must reside in the writing of a book. This cape, this refuge, it is a shelter from the world in a state of existence somewhere between death and rebirth, where thoughts can come from wherever thoughts come from and flow from the depths of your heart and soul, out through the pen and onto the page, leaving nothing but scribbles behind that tell the story something in your very essence is desperate to tell for a reason you will probably never be able to even articulate. It’s not important where the stories come from or what grander meaning and purpose a critic may want to glean from it all, the only thing that matters is the work, those words on the page that can transport a reader to a whole new universe, and can leave the author with some sense of who they truly are, frightening as that prospect may be.
